The Daily Oklahoman published a story today about an alleged illegal horse racing operation in southern Oklahoma, just north of the Texas border. The story began:
THACKERVILLE – More than 200 state law enforcement officers swooped down late Sunday afternoon on a horse racetrack where illegal betting is suspected and arrested about 100 people – mostly Hispanics from Texas – on accusations they participated in the venture.
I find two interesting things about this story. First, apparently some guy running an illegal horse racing operation just north of the Texas border does a better job of getting customers to his track than Remington Park in Oklahoma City and Blue Ribbon Downs in Sallisaw. Second, why does ethnic origin belong in this story?
