Here is the story in the Wall Street Journal.

Congratulations to Oregon immigration attorney Brent Renison who has taken on the task to bring down the awful widow penalty. As Brent says in this story, it is a Band-Aid. However, it’s a Band-Aid that is much needed for those who are victims of this injustice.

Where are we headed? In a way, I am tired of the comprehensive immigration reform approach that seems to be the mantra among the immigration industry and among certain political leaders. I’d rather see a step at a time approach to immigration reform where we get rid of the widow penalty, where we pass the Dream Act, where we get rid of bars for unlawful presence or unlawful entries, where we take measured steps to repair problems while maintaining those things in the system which work.
